Health and Safety Essentials
28th February 2012, Aztec West Bristol
Health and Safety may not be sexy, but it’s something you need to know and we have brought together an impressive line-up of speakers to make this day fully engaging.
Jerry Davies will bring you up to speed on radiation safety, and Mike Jessop will help you create or update your waste policy. Steve Noyce from Citation will take you through a risk assessment and cover latest COSHH rules. He will also review recent and upcoming changes to H&S legislation of relevance to vet practices. Steve Dean has newly left Defra where he was involved in drafting the veterinary medicines regulations and he will bring you up to date on what’s round the corner. He will give tips on understanding the prescribing cascade and make the case for compliance.
There will also be a practical demonstration on fire safety, including the chance to try out fire extinguishers and fire blankets. This will be tailored to vet practices and will include a separate certificate.
By the end of day you will:
- Be confident and up to date with the requirements of a ‘competent person’ as named in your H&S policy
- Be aware of the pertinent radiation legislation and know how to create a radiation safe working environment for your staff
- Be able to review and interpret the confusion of waste regulations and write and implement a waste policy
- understand and be confident in creating your own veterinary sector specific risk assessment
- Be able to plan and implement COSHH procedures within the practice
- Understand the UK Medicines Regulations and how they apply to veterinary surgeons
- Understand how to use the prescribing cascade effectively, and why reporting adverse reactions is important
- Be confident in tackling small fires, including understanding the different types of fire extinguisher
The day will start at 10:00 and finish at 16:30. Course notes, CPD certificates, lunch and refreshments are included.
