Feeling fleet of foot?

While the RCVS Trust is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, it continues to look ahead to ever-more exciting and challenging fundraising campaigns. In so doing, it has managed to squeeze a much-coveted place out of the London Marathon organisers for next year’s race, to be held on 26 April 2009.

College mourns loss of Past President

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has been saddened to hear that Emeritus Professor Leslie Vaughan DSc DVR FRCVS, its President in 1987-8, has died.

Clearing up confusion on SQPs

Whether qualified veterinary nurses should seek to become Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) in relation to the supply of veterinary medicines has been a hot topic for some time. But confusion exists and VNs may be making career choices based on misunderstandings about what being an SQP entails.

New corporate governance guidelines for RCVS

The corporate governance arrangements of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons are ‘perfectly competent’ but compliance could be improved. That was the finding of a Corporate Governance Group established to address issues of transparency and openness within the College.

Disciplinary Committee hearing adjourned

The Disciplinary Committee Inquiry into Mr Kfir Segev was adjourned today. It will resume on a date convenient to all parties, to be announced in due course at: www.rcvs.org.uk/disciplinary.

RCVS announces review of Extra-Mural Studies

Recent changes in the way veterinary schools teach clinical and practical skills, coupled with increasing financial pressure on students and new graduates, have triggered the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to review its guidelines for Extra-Mural Studies (EMS) and clinical education.

Age-barrier removed for VN trainees

11 November 2008

The lower age limit for student veterinary nurses – previously set at 17 – has been removed by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in order to comply with age discrimination legislation.

RCVS Facts 2008 comprises Part 2 of our annual report for this year. It provides information on everything from the number of UK veterinary students, through the distribution of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses across the country, to our summary accounts.
